What to do when your small child wants to be Optimus Prime (from Transformers)? Since there were nearly no transformer costumes available, except on ebay, we decided to make one.
Completed project photos:
I picked up some silver fabric and some heat bond tape from Field's Fabric. The silver fabric was used for chrome accents and windows on the clothing portions of the costume. We used existing pajama pants, hot wheels knee and elbow pads, and his new winter boots. I picked up a long sleeve red tee shirt and some clearance-aisle shin guards.
I took an up-close and personal photo of the head on his Optimus Prime toy, and printed a mask. The silver fabric is attached with heat bond tape to his shirt as windows and a grill, and to his pj pants as gas tanks. Printed Autobot stickers cover the logos on the knee & elbow pads and shin guards. Finally, logos were stenciled on the shirt with a black permanent marker.
